TLDR

This map visualizes five runs in Europe, shortly after escaping the North American continent for the first time in two years, with a little brother map that adds two more runs a year later.

Juicy details

This map is not fictional, but instead uses real data collected by my Nike Run app, then visualized using QGIS and Adobe Illustrator. As our devices get smarter (and scarier!) they do make it easier to use real world data to create cool looking maps. The biggest challenge with making this map was to take very dense street-level data from five awesome European cities and simplify the detail WAY DOWN to calming levels of detail found on each of these running routes.

The following summer I built an addendum which visualizes two additional runs in Europe.
