The Narcan v. Parklets Pandemic Map
TLDR
Inspired by the West Berlin / East Berlin divided U-Bahn lines prior to the fall of the Berlin Wall, this map envisions two fictional subway lines serving two very divided San Francisco communities at the peak of the Covid Pandemic.
Juicy details
Each High Line stop corresponds to an actual location where the San Francisco Police Department or another first responder deployed Narcan from January - July, 2022 in an attempt to prevent an opioid overdose. Peak Pandemic glumness.
Each Park Line stop corresponds to the location of a permitted parklet opened by a restaurant or other eating establishment in San Francisco approved from January - October, 2022. Peak pandemic resiliency.
The thing about this map (since it is based upon real data) is how sadly unsurprising it was that the Tenderloin was so tightly packed with Narcan incidents that it required a special Zoom insert. And less sad and more silly, is that the Mission -- the exact neighborhood in the city that most people would have guessed -- is the one location that needed a Zoom insert to depict its many, many parklets.
