New California

Fake map · 2012 · Not for navigation

TLDR

This map imagines a version of California that looks a lot like New Jersey.

Juicy details

For anyone who grew up in New Jersey, this map tends to be pretty obvious. But for most "normal" people not from New Jersey originally, this version of New California almost passes for the real state. My favorite feature is the tiny bit of New Jersey that forms a peninsula (I believe it is the Gateway National Recreation Area) which could pass for a miniature version of San Francisco.

In reality this is a map of New Jersey flipped in reverse and then enlarged 18.77 times to match the geographical proportions of California.

California: Approximately 163,696 square miles. New Jersey: Approximately 8,723 square miles. Difference: California is roughly 155,000 square miles larger than New Jersey.
