Huxley's Counties Map of the Great Big State

TLDR

The third map in the Great Big World Series visualizes the...wait for it... 58 counties in California! That is a lot of counties, many of which you probably haven't heard of (unless you live there of course!).

Juicy details

Two things are true about this map. The first is that I collaborated with my then six-year old to make the map. Specifically he chose the color palette and I did everything else. He was very proud of his diligent palette research. And it's true, we reviewed a lot of colors. Second, there might be a reason that six-year olds generally aren't professional cartographers. I can stare at the counties on this map forever, but the green National Parks laid overtop the also green counties like Riverside or Shasta are like nails running down a chalkboard for me. In my son's defense, I should have identified this cartographic no-no before sending the file off to be printed and framed. After all, I am the "professional" fictional cartographer.
